Sext, sext, sext away!

The ultimate guide to sexting.

Sexting is the term which umbrellas sending, receiving, or forwarding pictures, videos, text messages, and voice notes which are sexual in nature.

What is sexting?

Sexting is the term which umbrellas sending, receiving, or forwarding pictures, videos, text messages, and voice notes which are sexual in nature.

Is sexting immoral or illegal?

There are a lot of concerns that come with sexting, and a lot of sexting horror stories that have been circulated. But provided both parties are consenting and above-age, and no images are shared forward without the consent of the person who features in them, sexting is legal and perfectly moral. The issues within sexting arise when sexual violence, breaches of trust, and disregard for the law come into play. Sexting itself can be greatly fulfilling and healthy if navigated correctly.  In fact, it can do wonders for your sexual and emotional connection…

How to initiate sexting?

So, we know that sexting is great, but how do you actually do it?

First of all, timing is key. Make sure they’re not at a baby shower or a funeral or something similarly important when you send the first flirty text. When that hurdle is cleared, ease into it. Send something that’s obviously suggestive without being too overpowering. A not-so-clothed but not-fully-naked selfie, or a ‘I can’t stop thinking about you’ text is along the right lines.

Don’t stray too far out of your comfort zone. The term ‘sexting’ is pretty vague and can range from a flirty message to full-on nudes. It’s fine to get your heart beating a little, but take it at your own pace.

Here’s some we made earlier:

To get the convo going, start light and sweet..

‘Thinking about how much I love your (insert body part here)’

‘I wish you were here right now’

‘I can’t wait to feel you again’

Or the classic:

‘I’m so horny right now’ – there’s nothing wrong with saying it outright.

All about the angles

And the lighting. And the pose. If the camera’s out, put some effort into those sultry pics: wear something you feel sexy in (if you wear anything at all) and take photos that create a bit of intrigue. Shoot from angles that show erogenous zones of the body. For example, if you’re taking a topless mirror photo, or one from above, include your mouth but not the rest of your face.

There’s no rulebook. Experiment with taking photos until you find what makes you look and feel the best. And for future reference – keep some sexy photos in your camera roll so you can respond quickly if a sexting session takes you by surprise.

What are the benefits of sexting?

Sexting enhances and energises your sexual connection, whether you’re in a long-term or a purely sexual relationship. Overall, sexting works best for long-term couples. It’s a fun and flirty way of keeping the sexual magic alive even when you aren’t physically together.

Sex is fun, but it also has the capacity for being deeply intense and emotional – sexting channels this energy in a light-hearted way! Sexting regularly allows you to communicate your sexual needs and desires more openly, and it means that your sexual self can exist outside of just the bedroom.

It builds trust, intimacy, sexual desire, and creates a healthy forum for discussing all things sex. More than this – it’s enjoyable! Having fun and getting a bit giddy with your partner is a great bonding activity.

Safety first

When it comes to sending photos or videos, it’s important that you stay true to what feels right and don’t do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Communicate any concerns or worries with your partner and remember that you don’t have to give it 100% all at once. Just like sex, sexting takes time and trust, and this won’t happen overnight, even if you’ve already had sex!

Get in the mood, and get sexting!
